Lagos Widow Begs for Help After In Laws Allegedly Take Over Home, Confine Her and Two Sons to One Room

A 28 year old widow, Tosin Omolola, has appealed to the Lagos State Government for urgent intervention after alleging that her late husband's family took over her matrimonial home and subjected her and her two young sons to intimidation just days after his death.

According to her account, Tosin's husband died on July 20, 2026, after a brief illness. She claimed that about eight days later, her father in law, mother in law, brother in law and the brother in law's wife moved into their home in Ikorodu, Lagos.
She alleged that the family ordered her and her children to move all their belongings into a single room while they took possession of other parts of the house, shared her late husband's personal property and made plans to sell his car.

Tosin further alleged that she was physically assaulted during the dispute, claiming she was beaten, thrown to the ground and had her phone seized. She also accused her in laws of locking her out of the house at different times and threatening her after she made the incident public.
In emotional videos now circulating online, the widow pleaded with the Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency to intervene, saying she fears for her safety and that of her children while seeking protection for their inheritance rights.

The case gained wider attention after it was amplified by activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who called on the relevant authorities to ensure the widow and her children receive justice and protection.

Responding to the growing public concern, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency confirmed it had been alerted to the matter and is actively following up on the allegations. The agency thanked members of the public for bringing the case to its attention and said updates would be provided as investigations progress.

The allegations remain the widow's account of events and have not been determined by a court. The family members accused had not publicly responded to the claims as of the time of this report.
