Peter Obi Meets Diplomats, Global Leaders in Germany to Discuss Nigeria's Future Beyond 2027
Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has participated in a high level policy roundtable in Berlin, Germany, where discussions focused on Nigeria's democratic future, economic prospects and global partnerships ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The closed door session, organised by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) and titled "Nigeria in 2027 and Beyond," brought together diplomats, policymakers, business executives, development experts, representatives of international organisations and members of the global media.
During the engagement, Obi outlined his vision for Nigeria, stressing the need to strengthen democratic institutions, improve governance and reposition the country's economy through production rather than consumption.
He called for greater investment in small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs), describing them as critical drivers of employment, innovation and sustainable economic growth.
The former Anambra State governor also advocated increased investment in education, healthcare and infrastructure, insisting that Nigeria possesses the human and natural resources needed to become globally competitive if supported by accountable leadership and strong institutions.
Obi further urged deeper international cooperation, saying Nigeria must build stronger trade and investment partnerships while playing a more active role in global affairs.
He described the discussions as productive, noting that participants explored practical ideas for advancing Nigeria's democracy and economic development beyond the 2027 elections.
