Abducted Oyo Principal Considers Quitting Teaching After 56 Days in Captivity

The Principal of Community High School, Ahoro Esiele, Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, says she is considering leaving the teaching profession after spending 56 days in the custody of kidnappers.

Speaking after her rescue, Alamu said she has served for 28 years and has only four years left before retirement. She explained that the daily journey from Ogbomoso to the rural school had always been challenging, but the kidnapping has made it difficult to imagine returning.

"I have just four years to retire. I don't know if I can go back there again," she said.

Alamu was among teachers and pupils abducted during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026. The victims regained their freedom after 56 days in captivity.
