The leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) took a new turn on Sunday after the faction led by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe announced that it has successfully uploaded its Presidential, Vice Presidential, Senate and House of Representatives candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Candidate Nomination Portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development is expected to further intensify the internal battle for control of the party, with the rival bloc aligned to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also claiming legitimacy.
In a statement released after the exercise, Nafiu Bala described the successful upload as a significant milestone for his faction, saying it reinforces the party's commitment to due process and the protection of its founding members.
«"This achievement demonstrates our party's firm commitment to safeguarding the interests of our founding and legacy members in the face of anti democratic tendencies," he said.»
The ADC National Chairman said the party would now shift its attention to nationwide mobilization and preparations for the 2027 elections.
«"As a party, the ADC remains resolute in its mission to field credible, competent and people centered candidates who will provide purposeful leadership, promote good governance and bring hope to the Nigerian people," he added.»
Submission of candidates through the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal is a mandatory requirement for political parties participating in the 2027 general elections.
The latest development is expected to add another layer to the ongoing legal and political contest over the authentic leadership of the ADC as both factions continue to position themselves ahead of the polls.
